Differences between N95, KN95, FFP2 and KF94 masks - How to choose?

N95 and others refer to the mask level. The N series of masks are American standards, KN series are Chinese standards, FFP series are European standards, and KF series are Korean standards.

The following numbers refer to the protection capabilities, the greater the protection level, the higher. The diameter of water molecules in the presence of gas is about 0.4nm, and the overall particle diameter of the coronavirus is about 60-400nm. The mask cannot pass through particles with larger diameters, so it can block the virus. 95 refers to the efficiency of filtering such particulate matter up to 95%. The 90 series does not have the protection level of the 95, but it can resist more than 90% of the particles. In the FFP series, 2 basically corresponds to 95, and 3 has a higher filtration efficiency, reaching 99%.

It is easier to understand the filtering ability with the following set of relationships: FFP3>FFP2=N95=KN95=KF94>KN90. In addition, the number with a V at the end indicates that there is a breathing valve.

For fighting viruses and flu, the N95 series is sufficient. Medical N95 masks need to prevent high-pressure liquid splashing, so they have a higher standard than ordinary N95.

The model and execution standards of the mask are printed on the left side of the mask. The following execution standards are all qualified masks, and you can purchase them according to this.

· N95 is produced according to the American standard NOISH;
· FFP2 is the European standard EN149;
· KN95 is a Chinese standard, the Chinese standard for ordinary KN95 masks is GB2626-2006, and the standard for medical KN95 masks is GB19083-2010.

In addition, for medical surgical masks, the common standard is YY0469-2010 or YY0469-2011, which is printed on the independent outer packaging of each mask.
